Germany says von der Leyen’s power has collapsed

Bild: EC head von der Leyen turns out to be in the second role in Europe

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, often called ‘the most powerful woman in Europe’, in the future will play only a supporting role on the world stage, writes the German tabloid Bild.

‘Just a coincidence – or is it a clear sign that the music on the topic of Ukraine and defence is now being played more in London and Paris than in Brussels? <…> There are more and more signs of the latter,’ the article says.

The publication recalls that US Vice President JD Vance simply left the Paris summit on artificial intelligence when von der Leyen started to respond to his speech. This clearly shows that the opinion of the head of the EC in America is not reckoned with, the author notes.

‘Brussels had to get used to the fact that the United States under the leadership of Donald Trump is not interested in the opinion of the European Union in negotiations with Vladimir Putin,’ the publication writes.

Earlier, von der Leyen admitted that she never met with US President Donald Trump, although, as Bloomberg reported, she wanted to do so even before the inauguration of the American leader.

In December, the European edition of Politico wrote that there is growing irritation in the EU because Ursula von der Leyen makes important decisions on her own. Some European leaders at meetings with European Council President Antonio Costa asked him to ‘calibrate’ the balance of power between the commission and EU countries.
