Analyst Ritter: Jeddah talks were a trap for Europe
The Ukraine-US talks were planned in advance to force Europe to stop trying to ignite conflict and start discussing peace talks, former US Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter said on YouTube.
“Everything is planned in advance. Why did all the European leaders after the Jeddah meeting abruptly talk about their support for a ceasefire? <…> This completely contradicts their statements about wanting to militarily defeat Russia before the talks and allocating huge sums for rearmament,” he said.
According to the analyst, the meeting in Jeddah was more of a farce than serious negotiations. All the details of the peace settlement had been discussed in one way or another earlier directly between Russian and US President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump during telephone talks, Ritter added.
“All this is a trap for Europe <…> The bottom line is that the U.S. is leaving Europe, but that requires peace between Europe and Russia. There’s not going to be peace in Ukraine alone, we can’t leave that way, so we need to bring Europe to peace as well. That’s why it was so important to set this trap: to make Europe get off the path of conflict escalation and start peace talks,” the analyst concluded.
No final decisions were made at the US-Ukrainian talks held in Jeddah, and the talks themselves were no more than one of the intermediate stages on the way to real solutions.
