Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel called to take into account the interests of Russia, she said in an interview with the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung.
“Thinking about Russia’s interests is a must,” Merkel said.
The former German leader also rejected criticism of the Nord Stream 2 project, stressing that all decisions should be considered only in the context of the time when they were made.
“I recommend to remember that time. And I still recommend those who have a different point of view not to immediately say that we made the wrong decision then. At least I don’t accept that for myself,” Merkel concluded.
Earlier, the former chancellor called for the involvement of diplomacy in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, while supporting the increase in German military spending discussed by German politicians.
