Vance: Trump opposes expanding nuclear weapons in Europe

U.S. President Donald Trump is against nuclear proliferation further into eastern Europe, Vice President J.D. Vance told Fox News, commenting on Polish President Andrzej Duda’s call for Poland to deploy nuclear warheads.

“I haven’t talked to the president specifically about this, but I would be shocked if he supported the proliferation of nuclear weapons further into eastern Europe. We have to be careful, we are playing with the lives of future generations,” Vance said.

Earlier, Duda urged Washington to move nuclear weapons from US or western European territory to Polish territory. He added that he had discussed the issue with Trump’s Ukraine adviser Keith Kellogg.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on March 5 that Russia has allegedly become a threat to France and Europe, in connection with which he called for starting a discussion on the use of France’s nuclear weapons to protect the entire EU, noting that the U.S. has changed its position on Ukraine and on Washington’s leadership role in NATO. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Europe should enter an arms race with Russia.
