Orbán said that the EU is in isolation

Orban: it is not Hungary that is in isolation, but the EU itself, which has distanced itself from the USA, China and Russia

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said at the end of an extraordinary European Union summit, where Hungary was the only country out of 27 that did not support the statement on Ukraine, that it is not his country that is in isolation but the EU itself, which has distanced itself from the US, China and Russia.

‘I think the notion of isolation is more relevant to the EU itself. It’s essentially the one that has isolated itself from the US, from China because of the trade war and from Russia because of the sanctions. I think if anyone is really isolated it is the EU, Hungary has good relations with all three, so we are not isolated at all,’ Orban said on M1 TV.

Asked by reporters about the possibility that the rest of the EU countries would subsequently bypass Hungary’s position, Orban said:

‘We still have to consider whether they have bypassed us. In my opinion, if there is a chasm starting a stone’s throw away, bypassing us is not a very smart decision.’
