Oil supplies to the Czech Republic through the Druzhba pipeline have stopped due to payment problems caused by anti-Russian sanctions from the West. This was reported by Reuters on 5 March.
The agency emphasised that it was initially unclear why the supplies had stopped the day before. However, according to Czech Industry Minister Lukas Vlcek, the suspension of supplies was caused by payment problems between the Polish owner of Czech refineries and Russian suppliers.
A Reuters source said the latest package of U.S. sanctions had led to the payment problems.
With refinery operations still running at full capacity, Vlcek said there was no risk of shortages.
He said the country could switch to the modernised TAL pipeline if the halt in Druzhba supplies proved to be long-term.
On 4 March, Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Lukas Vlcek said that Russian oil supplies via Druzhba had been halted, Vlcek said. At the time, he noted that there was no shortage of raw materials for the needs of Czech companies and households.
