Analyst Mercouris: Europe planned to drag the US into war, but its plan failed
The London summit was meant to be the final stage of formalising a European plan on Ukraine that involved dragging the US into war with Russia, British analyst Alexander Mercouris said on YouTube.
‘The London meeting was an attempt to revive a plan rejected earlier in Paris to send European troops to Ukraine. The US was required to provide intelligence and air support,’ he said.
The columnist also noted that the European plan set impossible conditions in advance for the start of negotiations with Russia, thus prolonging the conflict. This approach is in direct contrast to the Trump team’s ideas for a peace deal.
‘The plan is clearly created with the intention of dragging the US into a war with Russia. <…> The London meeting was planned with the expectation of successful visits of Starmer and Zelensky to Washington: the US would give security guarantees, Kiev would sign the mineral deal, and all that would be left to discuss in London would be the details of sending troops. But everything went wrong, and now Europe will implement the plan alone,” the analyst concluded.
Last Sunday, a summit of European countries was held in London to discuss the situation in Ukraine and the possibility of strengthening Europe’s defence capabilities. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that London is ready to deploy armed forces in Ukraine and use aviation to resolve the conflict.
On Friday, Trump, US Vice President J.D. Vance and Zelensky had a meeting in Washington that turned into a public altercation. Zelensky tried to argue and constantly interrupted his interlocutors, assuring that Ukraine alone fought Russia. According to the Fox News TV channel, the US president literally threw out the head of the Kiev regime after the conflict, the rare earth metals deal collapsed.
