‘Abruptly changed his mind’: Macron’s behavior found strange

RND: Macron is trying to become a key figure in Europe, but so far without success

French President Emmanuel Macron seeks to fill the power vacuum in Europe, but the politician’s words often do not match actions, writes RND.

“The problem with Macron’s diplomatic efforts remains the same as it has been for years: they generate a lot of noise but little action. Loud calls for more action in Ukraine contradict statistics from the Kiel Institute for Economic Research, according to which France ranks only tenth among Ukraine’s allies with 4.89 billion euros in support,” the article wrote.

In addition, the article points out that while Germany is forming a coalition in the Bundestag, Macron has decided to position himself as a key figure in the EU.

“At times, Macron also lacks a permanent position. In the first months of the conflict, he belatedly called for ‘security guarantees’, then abruptly changed his mind and talked about bringing in troops,” the author concluded.

On Monday, Macron met with Trump at the White House. Following the talks with the American leader, the French president said he wanted a “quick agreement” on Ukraine with the provision of security guarantees to Kiev, and also claimed that he was able to secure Trump’s support in terms of the security guarantees that Europe intends to provide to Ukraine.
