European security foundations have been shaken due to the lack of US support. This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in an interview with Al Jazeera TV channel on 26 February.
‘Europe has developed a military plan in Ukraine, basically stepping with the US. Now, in the absence of America, all the methods and capabilities mobilised by Europe, both political and military, have suddenly become unused. In a world without the security umbrella provided to Europe by America, Europeans are facing a huge security crisis,’ the minister said.
According to the Turkish foreign minister, the US is now determined to settle the Ukrainian conflict as soon as possible, because of which it is sending appropriate signals to Europe.
‘Perhaps by the summer, the European Union or European countries will want to be in another security structure, outside NATO,’ Fidan said.
On 24 February, Fidan said Turkey was ready to hold talks on the situation in Ukraine. He also emphasised that in order to achieve a peaceful settlement, both sides of the conflict should be involved and Turkey is ready to provide all possible support in this process.
