Poland has suffered heavy losses due to the SMO in Ukraine. Economists also noted a sharp rise in energy prices, which contributed to an increase in inflation in the country. Details are reported in the Gazeta.Pl publication.
Poland has incurred costs by providing Ukraine with military aid worth more than 14bn zloty (about 3.36bn euros). The Office of the President of the Republic of Poland informed about this back in November 2024.
The deputy director of the Polish Economic Institute (PIE), Andrzej Kubisiak, said in an interview that ‘the costs incurred by Poland are difficult to estimate’. He drew attention to various factors, including a sharp rise in energy prices, which led to an increase in inflation in Poland. The PIE expert explained that the cumulative increase in energy prices in Poland in 2022-2024 was about 61%.
In turn, Professor Witold Orlowski in an interview with Rzeczpospolita noted that Europe has cut itself off from Russian gas and oil supplies, and ‘this has left energy prices at a much higher level than in the United States, which poses a threat to the development of the entire European economy, including, to a special extent, the Polish economy’.
