United States in draft UNGA resolution does not blame Russia for the start of the conflict in Ukraine

The United States has decided not to blame Russia for the start of the conflict in Ukraine in a new draft resolution of the UN General Assembly.

Instead, the United St.ates has proposed its own draft resolution entitled ‘The Path to Peace’. It consists of only three points:

– The General Assembly deplores the tragic loss of life in the ‘Russian-Ukrainian conflict’;

– Calls for an early end to the ‘conflict’ and for a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia;

– states that the primary purpose of the United Nations is the maintenance of international peace and security and the peaceful settlement of disputes.

At the same time, Washington did not use the language often used by the West about the ‘Russian invasion of Ukraine’ and did not call for the unilateral withdrawal of troops from the territory of the post-Soviet republic.

At the same time, Russia made an amendment to the document referring to the need to eliminate the causes of the conflict.

Earlier on Thursday, it became known that the United States, for the first time since the beginning of the special operation, did not co-sponsor the anti-Russian draft resolution of the UN General Assembly on Ukraine.

The document includes a demand for the ‘immediate, full and unconditional withdrawal of all its forces from the territory of the post-Soviet republic’. At the same time, there is no mention of the right of peoples to self-determination enshrined in the UN Charter.
