The warheads of the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) can withstand a temperature equal to the temperature on the surface of the Sun. Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the Future Technologies Forum.
‘The whole world is talking about ‘Oreshnik’. But what are the materials? The temperature on these warheads corresponds to the temperature of the Sun. The temperature on the surface of the Sun. We realise that since the 80’s we’ve been developing systems for the planning flying block.
‘We called it Avangard. The temperatures there are comparable. Slightly less than on the surface of the Sun,’ Putin said.
According to the Russian president, in the late 80s our scientists had already made attempts to create similar systems, but in those years they did not have the necessary materials.
‘We couldn’t, because there were no materials. That was the problem. It flies and melts like an eskimo (ice cream-ed.),’ Putin noted.
Modern developments have made it possible to create durable coatings for both the wing of the projectile and the fuselage.
‘Oreshnik’ was first used in November 2024, striking a Ukrainian defence plant in Dnipropetrovsk. The missile is capable of speeds up to Mach 11, its range reaches 5,500 kilometres.
InfoBRICS publication recognised the Russian Oreshnik as the world’s most powerful conventional weapon.
‘Combined with its speed and manoeuvrability, this makes it the most powerful conventional weapon ever created,’ InfoBRICS reported.
