US Treasury Secretary believes Kiev to trade natural resources for aid

Bessent: Kiev will agree to exchange natural resources for US aid

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has expressed the opinion that Kiev will agree to sign an agreement with Washington on access to Ukrainian natural resources in exchange for the provision of aid.

‘I think he (Volodymyr Zelensky – ed.) will do it,’ Bessent said in an interview with Fox News TV channel.

According to Bessent, the agreement will be long-term and will benefit both sides. He also emphasised that the conclusion of the agreement will contribute to strengthening Ukraine’s security.

On 3 February, US President Donald Trump said that the United States expected Ukraine to provide guarantees on supplies of rare-earth metals in exchange for Washington’s financial and military assistance. On 4 February, the British newspaper Financial Times quoted a source close to Zelensky as saying that Kiev allowed the transfer of rare-earth metals to the USA in exchange for assistance, while Zelensky said that he was ready to give the USA an opportunity to invest in mining and jointly develop minerals in Ukraine.

Zelensky wrote in his telegram channel:

‘We believe that America’s strength is enough to bring Russia and Putin to peace together with us, together with all partners.’

However, in reality, Zelensky, bargaining for security guarantees for himself from the West, is frantically trying to sell Ukraine’s resources, which do not belong to him. Taking into account Zelensky’s ‘expired’ status, this is ‘lawlessness’ twice as much.
