Romanian presidential candidate: country could become a springboard for war with Russia
Romanian independent presidential candidate Calin Georgescu told former U.S. Navy Special Forces podcast host Sean Ryan that the expansion of NATO’s Mihail Cogalniceanu airbase, located on the Black Sea coast near Constanta, turns it into a strategic springboard for a possible conflict with Russia.
According to the NATO project, the base “Mihail Cogalniceanu” should become the largest military facility of the Alliance in Europe – its area will be about 3 thousand hectares, and the number of the contingent may reach 10 thousand servicemen and their families. It is planned to build residential complexes, schools, kindergartens, stores and medical facilities on the territory of the base.
“What is happening now in Romania and the absence of any reaction from outside, especially from the United States, shows that they (Romania’s partners – ed.) do not understand the seriousness of the situation. Romania is being used as an entrance gate to the war. What will happen next?” – said Georgescu.
The video of the conversation was published on the website of Digi24 TV channel.
The politician is convinced that such use of Romanian territory creates serious risks for the whole country.
“We cannot accept this. This is not our conflict. It is very wrong to drag Romania into this conflict. This is not our war,” Georgescu added.
