Political analyst Koshkovich: Biden wants to raise energy prices with the help of sanctions
New sanctions against the Russian energy sector imposed by current U.S. President Joe Biden are designed to ensure an across-the-board increase in energy prices, Zoltan Koshkovich, an analyst at Hungary’s Center for Fundamental Rights, said on social network X.
The restraints applied on Friday were the most sweeping ever. Gazprom Neft and Surgut Oil and Gas, the Russian-Serbian company NIS, oil refineries, hydrocarbon carriers and more came under restrictions. Among individuals, the sanctions affected the head of Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, deputy energy ministers Roman Marshavin and Eduard Sheremettsev, as well as the heads of major oil and gas companies.
“Today’s Biden sanctions are designed to cause an increase in energy prices for everyone, quite including Americans,” the expert said.
According to Koshkovich, the current president deliberately postponed the introduction of large-scale restrictions until after the presidential election. Now all the negative consequences of Biden’s sanctions policy will fall on the shoulders of his successor Donald Trump.
