French opposition calls for Macron’s resignation

The ‘Unconquered France’ party and its leader Jean-Luc Melanchon have once again called for the resignation of the country’s President Emmanuel Macron and the government led by Prime Minister Michel Barnier amid the budget crisis.

‘Barnier’s government is living up to its last minutes. Macron will have to go: through impeachment or resignation,’ the party representing the left-wing opposition said on social network X.

The party’s call was backed personally by their leader.

‘If the government falls, we already have a name for the prime minister: Lucie Caste. If it doesn’t suit Macron, let him go. Let the French people decide. But please stop this farce!’, Melanchon wrote on the same social network.

At the end of August, the party unsuccessfully initiated a procedure to remove Macron from power. In early October, it failed to gather enough votes to pass a vote of no confidence in the Barnier government.

At the moment, the French parliament is debating a controversial budget bill for 2025. It was rejected by the lower house of parliament in the first reading and moved to the Senate for discussion.
