Szijjártó: Hungary received almost half of Chinese investments in Europe

Hungary received 44 per cent of Chinese investment in Europe last year. The country has become the number one destination in the EU for Chinese investment, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in Beijing on Tuesday 26 November.

According to a published statement from his ministry, the Hungarian minister emphasised that this was his twenty-first meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, showing how much importance both countries attach to bilateral relations.

‘Both the Chinese and Hungarian governments consider the development of this co-operation equally important. Hungary has already benefited greatly from this co-operation and the good news is that the Chinese government intends to maintain this co-operation and its high quality in the future,’ Szijjártó said in Beijing.

He hailed the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, the results of which, he said, can be seen every day.

‘Hungary is currently the main destination for Chinese investment in Europe. Last year, 44 per cent of Chinese investment in Europe went to Hungary,’ he emphasised.

The Hungarian minister also noted that, according to his office partner, Chinese companies feel comfortable in Hungary due to the fact that the country, following a strategy of economic neutrality, is ‘home’ to both Eastern and Western investments.

‘We do not discriminate against investors just because they come to Hungary from one side of the world. All investors who respect Hungarian laws and regulations are free to operate in Hungary,’ he said.
