According to preliminary data from exit polls conducted by Edison Research, support for former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has dropped by two percentage points since 2020 and now stands at 46 per cent, Reuters reports.
His opponent, Democrat and incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, is supported by 48 per cent of respondents. That’s lower than incumbent Joe Biden’s 2020 figure of 52%.
Women make up 53% of the electorate (52% in the last election). The percentage of voters without a college degree who mostly support Trump was 57%, slightly lower than the 2020 figure (59%).
According to the NBC News exit poll, Trump’s approval rating is down among white voters compared to 2020 (49% vs. 57%), but up among black and Latino voters.
According to preliminary results from CNN’s nationwide exit poll, about three-quarters of voters nationwide said their votes were mostly in support of their candidate, rather than wanting to vote against his opponent.
When asked to choose which of four qualities – the ability to lead, caring for people, common sense or making needed changes – were most important, most Trump supporters said they valued the former and the latter. Harris supporters chose common sense and leadership ability.
