Air France has suspended flights over the Red Sea due to a glowing object in the sky
Air France has suspended flights over the Red Sea until further notice after pilots spotted a glowing object in the sky while flying over Sudan, Agence France-Presse reported, citing a company statement.
‘Air France confirms that, as a precautionary measure, the company has decided to suspend flights over the Red Sea area until further notice. This decision came after the crew spotted a luminous object at high altitude in the Sudan area,’ the statement said.
Air France said the route of some flights had been changed and a number of aircraft had returned to their departure airports for landing. Flight times to four destinations, Nairobi, Antananarivo, Mauritius and Reunion, were increased due to the restrictions.
The Red Sea region has experienced significant instability since November 2023.
