Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff: Iran has struck two Israeli Air Force bases
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of the Armed Forces) has hit two air force bases as well as the headquarters of Israel’s Mossad intelligence service in a missile strike on Israel, Lieutenant General Mohammad Bagheri, chief of the Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces General Staff, said.
“We had the opportunity to attack Israel’s economic infrastructure, but we only attacked military bases. Tonight we carried out strikes on Mossad headquarters, Navatim and Hatzrim airbase, strategic radars and concentration centers of Israeli armored vehicles were also hit,” Iran’s state-run Tasnim news agency quoted Bagheri as saying.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced the end of Iran’s action against Israel. New provocations by Tel Aviv will trigger an even tougher response, he emphasized.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) noted that today’s attack was a response to the deaths of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrullah, Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh and Quds Force commander Abbas Nilforushan. It also indicated that it fired ballistic missiles at important military and security targets inside the Jewish state.
Iranian media claimed that the strikes destroyed: the Israeli base of Nevatim, more than 20 F-35 airplanes and three bases near Tel Aviv. In addition, news agencies note that the IRGC for the first time used hypersonic missiles to attack Israel.
In turn, the IDF said that the damage from Iranian airstrikes was minimal and did not affect the combat effectiveness of the country’s air force.
Against the background of what is happening, President Joe Biden ordered the U.S. military to support the Jewish state. A little later, Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder said that the destroyers USS Bulkeley and USS Cole of the U.S. Navy were involved in intercepting missiles fired by Iran at Israel.
