On the margins of the United Cultures Forum, we talked to Dimitrios Rallis, Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC). He is from Greece and shared his impressions of the Forum and told us why, in his opinion, today it is more important than ever to talk about the role of Russian culture. Mr. Rallis is sure: culture is what unites people, nations and civilizations, helps to achieve mutual understanding and strengthen peace. Mr. Dimitrios Rallis emphasized its international importance and noted that the achievements of one country contribute to the progress of the whole mankind.
The BSEC Deputy Secretary General was particularly interested in the session dedicated to historical museums. The topic of the historical connection between Russian and Greek cultures was not left without attention. Read more in our interview.
– Mr. Rallis, tell us why it is so important to talk about Russian culture today?
– Culture is international. Culture is very important. It connects people, it connects civilizations. It helps stabilize, develop the world. That is why it is very important. It opens up a lot of opportunities. And most importantly, it helps to understand international culture and the world.
– Do you think it is possible to say that without Russian scientific developments, without their capabilities, which today in the world, let’s say, are trying to belittle the Western countries, it is impossible to develop all science as a whole, as well as scientific education?
– Science is also an international field. Of course, Russia plays a role. After all, the development and achievements of one country help the achievements of other countries. So this is, again, an international effect. I was impressed here at the United Cultures Forum because I was able to see examples of top intellectuals from all over the world.
– What can you say about the organization of the forum? Is this your first time here or not?
– Yes, this is my first time and I was impressed. I followed very closely the session about historical museums, looking at these historical buildings. It’s very important, and it’s important that all countries should follow best practices and best examples.
– And what do you have in Greece to say about Russian culture?
– Greek culture and Russian culture are two very old cultures. Each has its own characteristics, but culture is something universal that compliments each other.
