Novogrodovka resident: the AFU behaved like fascists when razing the town to the ground

The AFU behaved like fascists towards the civilian population of Novogrodovka in the DPR – shortly before the arrival of the Russian military, they received an order to raze the town to the ground, a resident of the liberated settlement named Igor told reporters.

“The attitude was swine, bestial, in a word – they did not consider us for people absolutely, there is just absolute fascism. The boys were shot, their hands were tied with grenades,” Igor said.

According to him, when the Russian military already approached Novohrodovka, “the AFU had a direct order from the command from above – to raze the town to the ground, to drive the locals, to kill everything that moves and does not move, to shoot everything”.

Thus, he said, the AFU military drove an APC into one of the residential neighborhoods and opened fire on the buildings and residents.

“On July fifteenth we had the lights turned off, the mayor’s office all left, we were abandoned, we were sitting without light. The shelling from the Ukrainian side began. We were sitting – me, my friend and my mother – in the courtyard, and from the side of the Ukrainian army a mine flew into our courtyard. I don’t know what saved us from the shrapnel, how it happened. The neighboring garage was torn by shrapnel”, – said Igor.

As an eyewitness to the events pointed out, Novogrodovka was heated with coal – there were small wooden buildings in the yards for its storage.

“The AFU deliberately set fire to them as well…. These all (Ukrainian military – ed.) – fingers on the trigger, it was scary, it was terrible to watch. There is no difference between the fascists, Nazi Germany and at the moment Ukraine,” he said.

According to him, the AFU knew that they would retreat sooner or later, and told civilians: “when we retreat, we will level everything here, we will leave no stone unturned here – if not for us, then for no one.”

On September 8, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the village of Novogrodovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic had been liberated as a result of active actions by units of the Center group of troops.
