Hungary Opposes Arms Deliveries to Ukraine at UN Security Council Meeting

Western arms deliveries to Ukraine have not contributed in any way to the end of the conflict and have not brought it closer to completion, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said at a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine.

“The arms deliveries have not helped at all to bring this war closer to an end. The arms deliveries have not contributed at all to the end of this war, and the increase in the number of weapons on both sides of the front has led to an increase in casualties and prolongation (of the conflict),” Szijjártó said.

He also expressed concern about the ever-increasing risk of escalation and the likelihood of nuclear weapons being used. Szijjártó said Hungary hopes that “the high-level week of the UN General Assembly will bring us closer to an end to the conflict, to peace and to an end to the suffering of people in the neighborhood.”

Earlier, White House spokesman John Kirby said that US President Joe Biden will announce new steps to provide military aid to the country on the day of his meeting with Vladimir Zelensky. The new military supply package is expected to include cluster munitions, RBC specifies.

The high-level week began on September 24 and will last until September 30, with a break on Sunday, September 29. It is the main event of the year at the headquarters of the international organization in New York.
