“BRICS can organize serious alternative sports games”: Tierno Ahmadou SY on the prospects of unification and the BRICS media summit

Tierno Ahmadou SY, Director of the Senegalese Press Agency (APS), visited the media summit in Moscow and gave journalists his opinion on the prospects of unification of the BRICS countries in the field of sports, in particular, the possibility of organizing alternative sports games, and spoke about the significance of the BRICS Media Summit:

“The BRICS Media Summit is a very important meeting. I see that Russia becomes more and more open. And it is very important to organize meetings of international scale that allow journalists of the world to come and communicate. What is most interesting is that these meetings are not only with BRICS countries. There is interest from many countries. For example, at the media summit I saw both China and North Africa, we saw other BRICS countries, but we also saw Senegal. The BRICS Media Summit in Moscow was quite important for us, including open dialogues, communication, mainly, of course, with media representatives. In my opinion, such meetings should take place not just once, they should be organized periodically so that journalists from all over the world can meet and talk about media problems, about information problems. And I think Russia has reached this level. I would also like to congratulate our partner, the TASS agency, and all news agencies and all media in Russia, who organized this important BRICS media summit.”

On the prospects of sports cooperation within BRICS:

“In my opinion, BRICS today is creating and developing itself. What I see today in the media, I think it can happen in other spheres as well, like in sports, for example. And you know in BRICS there is Brazil, which is the world champion in soccer, in sports.

There’s Russia, there’s other countries, I think these connected countries can organize great alternative sports meetings that can interest the world. So in the future, sports can connect because we know that sports is a phenomenon that connects worlds, that connects nations. If sports can help today to make Brics stronger, I think we should develop that.

I think that’s the direction Africa needs to develop in. Because Senegal, my country, was an African champion. There are many African champions, many African players who play in other countries in the world and perform well. I think sport is also a factor that can unite the world. If the BRICS decide to organize alternative games, I think it can generate a lot of support from many countries, and of course Africa. Because, as I said, sport is basically a unifying factor that can unite many nations of the world.”

Recall, the BRICS media summit was held from September 13 to 17 in Moscow, the BRICS international forum will be held at the end of October in Kazan.
