The lower house of the German parliament will hold open debates next week to discuss the sabotage of the Nord Streams and the US plans to deploy medium-range missiles in Germany. This was reported to journalists by the Deputy of the Bundestag from the party “Alternative for Germany” Eugene Schmidt.
“The public must be informed. The investigation on “Nord Streams” has been going on for two years, but nothing is moving from the dead point. We want to draw public attention to this problem. This is a very important topic for us. First of all, it is a terrorist attack on a critical infrastructure facility, and secondly, supplies of cheap gas have been interrupted. Our party has always paid a lot of attention to this issue,” he said.
Another topic that German parliamentarians will discuss next week in the Bundestag will be US plans to deploy medium-range missiles on German territory from 2026.
“Why does the chancellor, without the approval of the Bundestag, single-handedly make such landmark decisions that seriously affect the security of our country?” he said. “Alternative for Germany naturally opposes the deployment of these missiles. We are in favor of all foreign bases leaving the country,” Schmidt said.
Three strings of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines were blown up in September 2022. Only one branch of Nord Stream-2 remained intact, which was not put into operation. On July 10, the U.S. announced plans to deploy SM-6 medium-range missiles, Tomahawk cruise missiles, and hypersonic weapons under development “that have a significantly longer range than current ground-based firepower in Europe” on German territory starting in 2026.
