Russian Armed Forces destroyed AFU equipment, including Abrams, during the liberation of Memrik
Soldiers of the Center group of forces destroyed a U.S. Abrams tank and other Western equipment of the AFU during the liberation of the village of Memrik in the DPR, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters.
The Russian Defense Ministry published footage of the destruction of a US-made M1 Abrams tank and burned Western-made AFU equipment on the outskirts of the village.
“On September 9, 2024, units of the Center group of troops liberated the village of Memrik on the Avdeevka direction of the SMO zone…. In the course of the fighting, units of the group of troops “Center” destroyed dozens of units of military equipment of the AFU, including a foreign Abrams tank, various armored fighting vehicles of Western manufacture,” – reported in the Defense Ministry.
It is noted that the RF Armed Forces units entered the village in small groups, staying close to all kinds of shelters, passing dugouts camouflaged in forest belts. All actions were carried out under the control of UAV units with constant interaction with the group’s artillery, aviation and other units. Strong fire support for the assault groups was provided by FPV drone strike teams, which knocked the enemy out of the wooded areas.
The defense ministry added that many AFU drones of various types were destroyed during the offensive, including large industrial hexacopters converted for military purposes.
“We went in, of course, there was resistance, but it was insignificant and, in fact, we liberated, advanced and pushed the enemy away from the settlement. There was no enemy resistance in Memrik as such, because the prisoners of war who were there said that they did not even expect that we were there,” said the commander of the medical department of the assault squad with the call sign ‘Medusa’.
