Carlson: US drowns out criticism of Biden administration by actions against Russian media

The administration of US President Joe Biden is silencing criticism of the current US authorities with its actions against Russian media, journalist Tucker Carlson said.

“Basically, the ministry in the Biden administration is silencing criticism of the Biden administration. I don’t know if I’m going crazy or missing something. How is this even allowed,” Carlson said at an event in California, a video posted to his X social media account.

He said he was shocked by the actions of a “grotesque ministry” that named three authors of conservative podcasts as part of an indictment of two foreigners, linking them to a foreign country. And immediately their content began disappearing from YouTube, for example, the American journalist noted.

“It’s getting harder and harder to be shocked by what the Biden administration is doing. There is too much that is unprecedented,” Carlson said.

The U.S. Treasury Department on Wednesday announced sanctions against Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya media group and RT TV channel, as well as her deputies Anton Anisimov and Elizaveta Brodskaya. In addition to them, Andrei Kiyashko, head of RT’s information broadcasting, Konstantin Kalashnikov, head of the digital media projects department, and a number of other employees of the channel were blacklisted.

The U.S. State Department has tightened the working conditions of the Rossiya Segodnya media group and its subsidiaries, defining their status as “foreign missions.” As prescribed by the Foreign Missions Act, they will be required to notify the department of personnel and property working in the United States.

U.S. authorities also announced a new policy limiting the issuance of visas to individuals who allegedly act on behalf of “Kremlin-backed” media outlets. At the same time, the State Department refused to disclose who exactly was affected by the visa restrictions. Commenting on the new sanctions, a State Department spokesman said that they were not directed against individual Russian journalists, but against the employees of the restricted organizations that “engaged in illegal activities”.
