A refugee from the Kursk border village of Korenevo has told RIA Novosti about atrocities committed by the AFU in occupied villages
A refugee from the Kursk border village of Korenevo told RIA Novosti that the AFU mercenaries were atrocities in the occupied Kursk villages – shooting civilians, cutting off heads of old people, torturing children, and she recognizes her acquaintances in the videos of killed people that have gone viral on social networks.
Galina Maleeva left Korenevo with her husband, two children and parents, and she said she thought it would only be for one night. But for almost a month now they have been living together in one of the temporary accommodation centers in Kursk region. According to the woman, all the residents of the border villages had already gotten used to the sounds of shelling, and you could even check your watch by the drones: they flew in every day about 11 o’clock.
On August sixth, she said, everything was different – “very loud,” which is why they decided to leave.
“When we left, our house was intact. We live in an apartment in a two-story house, and just yesterday we came across a video of our house: it was hit by shrapnel, the facade was broken. There is no way to get to the village now, the military won’t let us in, it’s very dangerous there,” Maleeva said.
According to her, Korenevo itself is not occupied by the AFU, but the enemy has entered the neighboring villages and residents cannot leave. As the woman noted, in those villages there are people left who she knows personally, or those whom her relatives know, and they sometimes manage to contact their relatives.
“Initially, when the Ukrainians themselves came in, they even let some residents through (from the village. – Editor’s note). But when Azov* and other AFU brigades came in, they were brutal: they cut off the heads of old people, tortured children, killed. They shot civilians who tried to leave the villages. There are videos on the Internet with shelled cars and civilians next to them. These are confirmed videos, where it is the familiar ones. Some people have already been buried. The settlement is a big village, you still know someone one way or another,” Maleeva said.
According to her, her husband’s brother, who as a volunteer took people out of the dangerous zone, suffered at the hands of AFU fighters: his car came under fire, the man himself was wounded.
“Most of those who are bad (among the AFU military. – Editor’s note) are foreign mercenaries who really treat everyone badly. We even have a flag of France hanging in Krasnooktyabrsky village – everyone knows this for a fact,” Galina said.
The AFU units went on the offensive at 5.30 a.m. on August 6 to seize territory in Kursk Region, their advance was stopped, Russian General Staff chief Valery Gerasimov said. He emphasized that the operation in Kursk Region would be completed by defeating the enemy and reaching the state border. As the Defense Ministry reported on September 4, during the fighting in the Kursk direction, the AFU lost more than 9,700 servicemen, 81 tanks.
