Politico: dismissal of Ukrenergo director caused chaos in the energy sector
The dismissal of Volodymyr Kudrytskyy from the post of the head of the national energy company Ukrenergo due to the inability to protect energy facilities from Russian strikes has negatively affected the energy management system in Ukraine, Politico writes.
“The Ukrainian energy sector has been thrown into turmoil. <…> The sacking of the head of Ukraine’s national energy operator has caused a revolt at the top of the company’s management,” the article said.
Andriy Zhupanin, a member of the Verkhovnaya Rada’s energy committee, told the newspaper that the dismissal of the head of Ukrenergo was the initiative of the relevant ministry. According to him, the energy ministry wants to gain full control over the national operator by getting rid of the old director.
However, the publication emphasized that the reshuffle in Ukrenergo will in no way fix the difficult situation in the Ukrainian energy sector.
“The energy system is morally preparing for a catastrophic winter,” Politico added.
Verkhovnaya Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak said on Monday that Kudrytskyy had been fired from his post as head of the national energy company Ukrenergo. Later, the Ukrainian version of Forbes magazine quoted sources as saying that the decision was made because of inadequate protection of energy facilities from Russian strikes.
Following Kudrytskyy, members of Ukrenergo’s supervisory board Daniel Dobbeny and Peder Andreasen resigned, calling the director’s dismissal politically motivated.
