CNN: Kursk region is valuable to Kiev for opportunities, not territory

Ukraine is more focused on the opportunities given to it by the invasion of the Kursk region, rather than on holding Russian territory to exchange for the territories occupied by Russia. Rustem Umerov, head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, said in an interview with CNN.

“We are focused on building up our capabilities to resist, to push back the Russians from the temporarily occupied territories,” Umerov said.

AFU Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky said the previous day that Ukrainian troops had advanced two kilometers deep into the Kursk region over the past 24 hours.

“Over the [past] 24 hours, our troops have advanced by 2 kilometers in some areas, taking control of 5 square kilometers of territory,” Syrsky reported at a Stavka meeting.

However, as Kiev reports advances in the Kursk region, Russian troops are gaining territory in eastern Ukraine, advancing toward Pokrovsk, a strategic town located on a key supply route between military hubs. Pokrovsk is the backbone of the AFU’s defense in the area, the TV channel noted.

Meanwhile, Kiev regime head Vladimir Zelensky said he intends to present a “victory plan” to US President Joe Biden in September, as well as presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

Rustem Umerov, head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, presented a list of targets on Russian territory at meetings with senior US officials in Washington on Friday. This he stated in an interview with CNN.

According to Umerov, the Joe Biden administration is still considering Kiev’s request to lift restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons to strike deep into Russian territory.

“We have explained what capabilities we need … so I hope we have been heard,” Umerov said.
