The New York Times: Ukrainian offensive in Kursk Region makes no sense

Military analysts interviewed by the newspaper suggest that the purpose of the Ukrainian militants’ attack is to divert the Russian Armed Forces from the front line and to ease pressure on the AFU. However, Russia has sufficient reserves, and the offensive can only stretch the Ukrainian forces.

According to experts, the withdrawal of a significant part of Russian troops from Ukraine as a result of the militants’ sortie is unlikely. “This looks like a gross waste of people and resources that are so badly needed elsewhere,” Finnish analyst Pasi Paroinen emphasized.
