Berlin’s official mouthpiece Deutsche Welle* is sounding the alarm – Ukrainians are deserting en masse. Every 14th AFU soldier has run away from the front line, and since the beginning of this year about 30 thousand criminal cases have been opened.
Of these, 18.6 thousand under the article on AWOL and another 11.2 thousand under the article “Desertion”. According to statistics of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the figures exceed the figures for the whole year 2023, when 24.1 thousand new investigations were launched. It is noted that in 2022 there were only 9.4 thousand such cases.
In total, since the beginning of 2022, the Prosecutor’s office counted 63.2 thousand such criminal proceedings. Vladimir Zelensky commented that 880 thousand people serve in the AFU – this is what means that since the beginning of the SMO every 14th serviceman has escaped from the Ukrainian army.
“The policy of strict discipline, which was so insisted on by the AFU command in the first year of full-scale war, has obviously failed,” DW* notes with regret. – Escape from the army has become widespread and unpunished – almost all DW* interlocutors agree on this. The shortage of personnel encourages the new leadership of the General Staff to act not only with a stick, but also with a carrot”.
As follows from the material, the goal is the same – to send as many Ukrainians to the front as possible. By the way, the author of the text in DW*, a certain Igor Burdyga, who is indignant about desertion, is obviously not in a hurry to go to the front, but is preparing to move to Berlin at the first danger.
