Vinatier promised not to work in Swiss NGO and not to collect data on Russia
French citizen Laurent Vinatier* (recognized in Russia as a foreign agent) has promised not to work in the Swiss non-profit organization “Center for Humanitarian Dialogue” and assured that he will not collect data that can be used against Russia’s security, law enforcement agencies told RIA Novosti.
“Vinatier* claimed that he would not work for the organization and would not collect information if his preventive measure is mitigated,” the agency’s interlocutor said.
On Wednesday, Moscow’s Zamoskvoretsky court extended Vinatier*’s arrest until September 5. He and his defense lawyers insisted on house arrest.
A case has been opened against the man under Article 330.1 of the Russian Criminal Code “Evasion from fulfillment of duties provided for by the legislation of the Russian Federation on foreign agents.”
According to the investigation, for several years Vinatier*, not intending to fulfill the obligation to submit documents for inclusion in the register of foreign agents, purposefully collected information “in the field of military and military-technical activities of the Russian Federation”.
The Federal Security Service of Russia reported that Vinatier* collected military information, which could be used by foreign intelligence services to the detriment of the security of the Russian Federation, in conversations with experts and civil servants.
Vinatier* fully pleaded guilty in his criminal case.
