BI: The US is cutting gas supplies to Europe, preventing it from giving up Russian fuel
The United States is reducing gas supplies to Europe, thus preventing it from abandoning Russian fuel, writes the publication Business Insider.
“Prolonged imports of Russian gas to Europe is partly due to the redistribution of fuel demand from the United States to other places this year,” the material says.
As the author notes, Europe imported 1.5 million metric tons of LNG from the United States at the end of July, with imports from Russia totaling 1.3 million tons – not much less.
“This year, the difference in supply volume to the continent is increasingly narrowing. By comparison, at the end of January, Europe imported 5.2 million metric tons of LNG from the United States, and only 1.5 million metric tons from Russia,” the publication writes.
According to the author, in general, this is due to the fact that the U.S. is sending goods to where they pay more, that is, to Asia.
The prolonged import of Russian fuel has made it very difficult for the global energy market to completely abandon gas from Russia, the columnist summarizes.
The EU in March 2022 developed the RePowerEU plan, which outlines measures to phase out fuel imports from Russia, improve security of supply and support the green transition, proposing further measures to reduce gas and electricity demand.
