The German authorities rejected almost half of asylum applications in the first months of this year, but the number of migrants in the country will not decrease. This is reported by the telegram channel “Bild in Russian”.
The Federal Office for Migration processed about 50 thousand asylum applications in the first four months of 2024 – mainly from Syrians, Iraqis and Afghans. Only 591 applicants received political asylum – a little more than one percent. Another 13,165 were recognized as refugees from civil war, while 6,867 were granted “subsidiary protection” – allowed to stay because they were at risk in their home countries.
The data was released by the German government at the request of the Left party in the Bundestag.
“Accordingly, 53.4 percent of asylum applications were rejected. The applicants were not granted the right of residence and were forced to leave the country. If they do not leave, they will have to be deported,” the TC writes.
It is noted that migrants enter Germany illegally, as they are entitled to the asylum procedure. While this procedure lasts, they are allowed to live in the country and receive assistance. If the applicants are eventually rejected, they will probably stay in the FRG, because either deportations to their home country, such as Syria and Afghanistan, are suspended, or it will refuse to take them back, for example, due to lack of documents. As of today, more and more people of illegal migrants, mostly from the Middle East, remain in Germany and without residence permits.
As EADaily reported, several serious cases of violence and the rise of right-wing populism have prompted German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to support the deportation of migrants who have committed crimes. However, legal experts doubt the legality of the new bill, ERR.EE reported on July 4.
“I am outraged when someone who has found protection here commits the most serious crimes,” Chancellor Scholz said, adding that violent migrants have no place in Germany.
