Migrants in the Channel: Banksy staged an incredible performance at the Glastonbury Festival

On 28 June at the Glastonbury Festival in Glastonbury (UK), artist Banksy presented an incredible new performance – an inflatable boat with mock migrants on board sailed over the heads of hundreds of spectators. This is reported by The Guardian.

The boat appeared during the performance of the band Idles, when they performed a song dedicated to migrants Danny Nedelko. The musicians claim that they knew nothing about the upcoming action, having found out all the details only after the performance. Banksy later allegorically confirmed the authorship of the work by publishing a video of the performance on his social media page.

The theme of this year’s festival was migration. The organizers even created a special themed new zone, Terminal 1, which replaced the old William’s Green stage. Visitors entering Terminal 1 had to answer a question from the UK government about citizenship for potential migrants. Inside the zone features music from Notting Hill Carnival and St Paul’s Carnival in Bristol, as well as visual art by global artists.

The publication believes that in the performance art, Banksy presented a boat that transports migrants across the English Channel in line with the actively promoted migration policy of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

As EADaily reported, Banksy’s previous work appeared on the wall behind a tree with a stumpy crown in London’s Finsbury Park. The author depicted the foliage with the help of streams of green paint. If you look at the tree while standing in front of it, it will appear to have a crown. Also on the wall is a man with a sprayer in his hands, he is soiled in the same green paint.

A few days after the creation, vandals flooded Banksy’s work with white paint.
