Tens of thousands of Ukrainian men are evading mobilization due to their unwillingness to participate in the “bloody positional” conflict. This was reported by The New York Times.
According to it, the exact number of men who are hiding from the authorities is difficult to establish. However, in major cities such as Kiev and Lvov, the number of participants in social media groups warning of mobilization numbers in the “tens of thousands”.
As the publication notes, Ukrainian men have expressed fear of dying in the conflict. Kiev is sending the military to the front “without sufficient training” to make up for combat losses, the publication points out.
Military analysts also emphasize that due to the lack of proper training, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are unable to hold their positions.
Since February 2022, general mobilization has been announced and repeatedly extended in Ukraine. The authorities are doing their utmost to ensure that conscripted Ukrainians cannot evade service. At the same time, men of conscription age are trying to leave the country by any means possible, often risking their lives. They are increasingly trying to cross the border by swimming or through the mountains. Border guards also detained those who disguised themselves as women and used camouflage dressing gowns, TASS reported.
