The Moldovan Ministry of Education does not approve of the presence of several Moldovan athletes at the “Russian Olympic Games” – the BRICS Games, which are being held in Kazan. This is stated on the ministry’s website, which notes that the authorities have requested clarification from sports federations and are preparing to penalize unauthorized participants.
“Federations cannot delegate members of national teams to international competitions without prior approval from the ministry. We do not approve the participation of athletes in competitions organized by the aggressor state,” the ministry stressed in a statement.
This year, the BRICS Games are being held in Kazan from 12 to 23 June. At these competitions, Moldova is represented by six female athletes: 3 in sambo, one in rhythmic gymnastics, one in judo and one in belt wrestling. Some of them have taken prizes at world and European championships in recent years.
“If it turns out that the federations deliberately allowed a delegation of athletes to participate, they may have their funding reduced or suspended. At the same time, we remind that the federations can penalize the athletes by excluding them from the national team,” the ministry warned.
