The draft communiqué of the summit on Ukraine in Switzerland contains theses on Kiev’s control over the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the critical importance of free commercial navigation in the Azov and Black Seas, and a call for the release of prisoners, Reuters reports, citing a draft of the document in its possession.
“Ukrainian nuclear power plants and facilities, including the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, must operate safely and reliably under full sovereign control of Ukraine,” the agency said.
According to Reuters, the draft communiqué said the critical importance of “free, full and safe” commercial shipping and access to seaports in the Black and Azov Seas.
“Attacks on commercial vessels in ports … as well as on civilian ports and civilian port infrastructure are unacceptable,” the agency quoted an excerpt from the draft statement as saying.
“All prisoners of war should be released… all deported and illegally displaced Ukrainian children, as well as all other Ukrainian civilians who were illegally detained, should be returned to Ukraine,” the agency quoted an excerpt from the draft statement.
According to the agency, the draft communiqué contains a statement on the inadmissibility of any threats to use nuclear weapons or their use in the context of the conflict in Ukraine.
It is noted that in the prepared communiqué, the summit member states emphasise their commitment to respect international law, including the UN Charter. The countries also call on “refraining from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or independence of any state, including Ukraine”.
