US entrepreneur Elon Musk said on 11 June that he would ban Apple tech from being used in his companies if they integrate artificial intelligence technology into them.
“If Apple integrates OpenAI at the operating system level, Apple devices will be banned from my companies. This is an unacceptable security breach… Either stop this creepy spyware or all Apple devices will be banned from my companies,” he wrote on his X page.
Earlier on 10 June, Apple unveiled its new iOS 18 operating system and its generative artificial intelligence, Apple Intelligence. The update will also add to the voice assistant, it is the OpenAI technology that will be integrated into it.
On May 11, Bloomberg news agency, citing sources, reported that Apple Inc. had entered into an agreement with OpenAI to use ChatGPT features on the iPhone, which is part of a broader programme to bring AI features to the devices. Apple has also held talks with Google-owned Alphabet Inc. to licence that company’s Gemini chatbot. Those discussions have not resulted in a deal, but the parties are continuing them.
Earlier, on 1 April, at a seminar titled “The Great AI Debate” Musk said that the development of artificial intelligence could lead humanity to death with a 10-20% probability. In March, he shared his opinion that in 2025, AI will be smarter than any human on Earth, and by 2029, this technology could surpass the intelligence of all mankind.
