The XXVII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will take place from 5 to 8 June. 18,600 people from 139 countries and territories have confirmed their participation. Despite the sanctions, the level of business activity has exceeded the indicators of 2019. Traditionally, Western European countries will be poorly represented at SPIEF, but the geographical scope of the agenda continues to grow at the expense of the Global South.
The programme includes more than 150 thematic discussions and a record number of bilateral business dialogues. They will take place in the formats Russia-Africa, Russia-China, Russia-India, Russia-Latin America, Russia-UAE, Russia-Oman, Russia-South Africa, Russia-Azerbaijan and EAEU-ASEAN. Oman will act as a guest country.
Bolivia and Zimbabwe will be represented by Presidents Luis Arce and Emmerson Mnangagwa. 50 ministers from Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the Arab world will also visit the city on the Neva River. Among them are Prime Minister of CAR Felix Molua, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Alparslan Bayraktar and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Szijjarto.
The main theme of the forum, “The foundation of a multipolar world – the formation of new points of growth”, is quite in line with such geography. And within one of the sessions the question will be posed even more sharply – “Requiem for Europe: a new era of international co-operation”.
Discussing the decline of Europe and “the role of the current generation in building a new world order” will be Tumelo Ramaphosa, son of the President of South Africa, CEO of Studex Group and evangelist of blockchain in Africa, Khalid Al Mulla, top manager of Kuwait’s billion-dollar Al Mulla Group, Vicente Barrientos, President of the BRICS Business Council and Director of the Ibero-American Institute, and Nimual Piewtchoggam, Chairman of the Committee of the Joint International Chamber of Commerce of Thailand.
And in another session, participants will find out whether the West has succeeded in demonising Russia. This time the German Chancellor’s great-grandson Alexander von Bismarck will comment.
On 7 June, President Vladimir Putin will traditionally speak during the plenary session.
