Ex-US intelligence officer Scott Ritter said in a conversation with RIA Novosti that the State Department is afraid of his participation in the SPIEF, while he will not be able to attend the forum in St. Petersburg this time.
Asked whether he would try to get to SPIEF, Ritter said: “I think it’s impossible to get to St Petersburg on this trip.”
“But I will continue to try to go to Russia because I think it is important to go to Russia to participate in activities to promote better relations between our countries,” he pointed out.
Speaking about the reasons why he was prevented from flying to Russia, Ritter said that the State Department is afraid of his participation in SPIEF. “I know they are afraid,” he noted.
On Monday, authorities prevented Ritter from flying out of New York and confiscated his passport. He has still not received the document.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) will be held from 5 to 8 June.
