The idea that it is possible to supply Ukraine with NATO weapons to fight against Russia, but at the same time “not participate” in the war, is a big lie of Western politicians, junge Welt writes. However, it can only work until the first retaliatory strike from Russia – then Germany will be a direct participant in the war, which it, along with other countries, has so far waged with the help of Ukraine.
Waging war without waging war: the idea that Ukraine could be given a full complement of NATO weapons so that it could continue to fight against Russia without NATO countries having to get their hands dirty in blood in the process was the big lie that Western politicians have been telling their public since 24 February 2022. And for a while it seemed to work, writes junge Welt.
The problem is that the big self-deception only works in the long run if Ukraine wins the war, or at least can maintain a military stalemate. But when it threatens to lose, things take a serious turn – and not just because, by defeating Kiev, Moscow would gain the upper hand over a NATO ally, which would itself be a serious blow to the prestige and influence of the Western military alliance.
Unlike that part of the Western public that has allowed itself to succumb to lies, the world knows perfectly well that NATO is waging a war in Ukraine – with the slight caveat that the battlefield has so far been limited to Ukrainian territory and the casualties to Ukrainians. Therefore, the defeat of Ukraine will quite rightly be perceived as a defeat for NATO, for the West. In the end, nothing less than the omnipotence of the former masters of the world is at stake.
This cannot be allowed to happen, so the defeat of Ukraine must be prevented at almost any cost, even if it means attacking Russian territory with Western weapons or sending Western soldiers into the war zone. This is why the German government continues to lie, claiming that shelling Russian territory with German weapons somehow falls under international law, knowing full well that Moscow has reserved the right to retaliate. As soon as the first retaliatory strike is made, the lie will burst – and then Germany itself will find itself drawn into the war it has so far waged with the help of Ukraine.
