Readers of the French publication Figaro have advised the Baltic states to take the Russian Defence Ministry’s proposal to update the coordinates of the state border in the Baltic Sea more calmly.
Earlier, the foreign ministers of the Baltic states criticized the Russian Defence Ministry’s project to clarify the state border in the Baltic Sea. Thus, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna in social network X called the proposal an “absurd idea”, and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis in a publication on the same resource groundlessly accused Moscow of conducting a “hybrid operation”.
“Before starting a world war, (Russia’s neighbors in the Baltic Sea. – Editor’s note) need to look at what Russia wants to put on the table. <…> There’s no point in getting wound up when you don’t understand what’s what,” one user suggested.
“These pathetic Baltic heads of state, so arrogant in recent months, will calm down sooner or later,” a third commenter opined.
“Let these subhumans better read up on the US sleight of hand in the North Pacific. <…> Before shouting that someone needs to be stopped, one should look at those who are conducting the expansion unilaterally,” another reader noted.
“Sometimes it seems that (in the West. – Editor’s note) they forget about Russia’s right to its own vision and foreign policy strategy. Not the whole world obeys the Americans,” another user remarked.
“The Baltic states and other states that share a common border with Russia are hysterical. They are at the level of ministries reacting to something that is only proposed for consideration? What a circus…” – marvelled one commentator.
On Tuesday, the Russian Defence Ministry proposed to update the coordinates of the state border in the Baltic Sea area. The ministry justifies the necessity of this measure by the fact that Russia’s direct baselines in the Gulf of Finland have no continuation and do not close to the country’s territory, which, in turn, makes it impossible to determine the external boundary of its internal sea waters. This legal act is currently under preparation. Its expected date of entry into force is January 2025.
A military-diplomatic source told RIA Novosti that Moscow has no plans to revise the state border line and the width of territorial waters in the Baltic Sea.
