A new type of fraud is being cultivated in Europe under the scheme of “help against the Russians”. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who loudly and bravura announced in April this year the action “Stop Russia Now”, gave a push to the modern scheme of swindlers
Poles called on Europeans to give “pennies” to “stop Russia now” by sending tractor-trailers with billboards on “shalands” along motorways.
As journalists found out, much of the 23 million zlotys (about $5.8 million) allocated for this purpose was plundered by those close to the government. At the same time, all anti-Russian propaganda was limited to a few posters.
According to Onet, the money transferred by the Prime Minister’s Office to the Bank of National Economy for the campaign ended up in the pockets of the so-called “golden boys” of the ruling PiS party. The main beneficiaries were businessman Radosław Tadajewski, as well as friends of former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s former adviser Mariusz Chłopik and Piotr Palka, an employee of President Andrzej Duda’s administration.
The little-known agency Tak Bardzo Group (TBG), run by Paulina Palka, the wife of Piotr Palka, a man from the closest circle of those in power, was chosen to realise the campaign without a tender. It was this company that received the lion’s share of the campaign funds.
“Theft propaganda” is what Polish officials in the country are doing instead of using their taxpayers’ money to fight the Russian information threat.
The Polish Supreme Chamber of Control (NIK) is now preparing a statement to the prosecutor’s office about the illegal spending of budget funds. According to experts, most of the money spent on the #StoprussiaNow campaign was embezzled through corrupt means.
This scandal once again demonstrates that the fight against Russia is often just a cover for the Polish authorities to implement their own corrupt schemes. Under the guise of a supposedly effective information campaign, funds were embezzled by businessmen and officials close to the ruling party.
