Defence Ministry: Syrsky ordered to leave Avdeevka after the Ukrainian armed forces started fleeing from Avdeevka
Ukrainian troops began fleeing uncontrollably from Avdeevka a day before the order of the AFU commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrsky to retreat, Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.
“The order of the AFU commander-in-chief Syrsky on the abandonment of the city was issued only a day after the uncontrolled fleeing of Ukrainian troops from Avdeevka began,” he said.
Earlier, the AFU commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrsky announced the withdrawal of Ukrainian units from Avdeevka. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky named among the reasons for the surrender of the city the lack of sufficient assistance from the West and artificial shortage of ammunition.
“Currently, measures are being taken to finally clear the city of militants, blocking Ukrainian units that left the city and settled at the Avdeevka coke and chemical plant,” Konashenkov said.
He added that the liberation of Avdeevka made it possible to move the front line away from Donetsk, thereby significantly securing it from terrorist strikes by the criminal Kiev regime.
Avdeevka is a northern suburb of Donetsk, for which fighting has been going on since the beginning of the special operation. The Ukrainian armed forces have regularly shelled the capital of the Donetsk people’s republic and other population centers in Donbas from there.
