Three UN peacekeepers have been injured in two attacks in Mali and have been evacuated for medical treatment, the peacekeeping mission in the country (MINUSMA) said.
The mission said the day before that it was speeding up the process of withdrawing the contingent from the country due to the deteriorating security situation.
“The MINUSMA convoy that departed from Ber today was attacked twice. Three injured peacekeepers were evacuated to Timbuktu for medical attention,” the report said.
On Sunday, Mali’s armed forces reported that six soldiers were killed and four injured in an attack by terrorist groups in Mali. The fire was opened on Malian units that were to be deployed in the locality of Ber as part of the withdrawal procedure of MINUSMA forces.
Earlier, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution terminating the UN Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) from 30 June, the contingent must leave the country by 31 December 2023.
MINUSMA was established by a Security Council resolution of 25 April 2013. It was responsible for protecting civilians, respecting human rights and enabling humanitarian assistance.
