Rebels in Niger Accused France of Destabilizing the Country

France is preparing to implement a plan to destabilize Niger with the involvement of its military contingent stationed in the African country. Col. Amadou Abdraman, spokesman of the National Council for the Salvation of the Homeland (CNS) formed in Niamey after the coup d’état, said.

“The French military contingent stationed in Niger is trying to set in motion a plan to destabilize the country in order to discredit the CNSR and detach it from the people who support the council’s actions. The aim is also being pursued to create a general sense of insecurity. In the face of these actions, the defense and security forces have been ordered to put the country’s armed forces on high alert and mobilize the population,” Abdraman was quoted by ActuNiger portal as saying.

Earlier, the rebels, according to Agence France-Presse, accused France of violating the airspace of the African country. According to the version of the rebels controlling the power in Niger, the French military plane flew in the morning from the capital of Chad and when entering the airspace of Niger interrupted contact with air traffic control. The plane had been in the African country’s airspace for more than four hours. Niger closed its airspace on August 6, fearing foreign intervention.
