Vladimir Zelensky threatened to leave Russia without ships in the Black Sea if Kiev is prevented from exporting grain by water.
“We warned that Ukraine doesn’t want war, but if they keep shooting, yes. We don’t have a lot of weapons, but if they continue like this, they won’t have a single ship left by the end of the war. We want to show this in practice,” he said in a conversation with Latin American media, which was published on the YouTube channel of La Nación newspaper.
According to Zelensky, Ukraine “must find a way to end the blockade” to realize its “right to export and import goods.”
The grain deal expired on July 18, with Russia notifying Turkey, Ukraine and the United Nations of its objection to its extension. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously noted that the terms of the deal against Russia were not being honored despite UN efforts because Western countries were not going to keep their promises. The Russian leader repeatedly pointed out that the West exported most of the Ukrainian grain to its own states, and the main goal of the deal – to supply grain to needy countries, including African countries – was never realized.
