‘ I have just noticed that the commercial television stations are now promoting a charity football match in a couple of weeks time called Match4Ukraine. Yes, believe it or not, former Chelsea footballer and Ukrainian international star Andreiy Shevchenko is promoting the match which includes some publicity seeking celebrities, including rent a suit, David Beckham, who would turn up at the opening of an envelope if the price was right.

The match will be played at Stamford Bridge, the home of Chelsea FC, the former owner being fans favourite Roman Abramovich who was forced to sell the club following the beginning of Russia’s SMO in Ukraine. He sold the club for over £4billion which he said he would donate to Ukraine. To date, however, he has so far not paid any money to Ukraine – but still remains a firm favourite of the fans.

For some obscure reason, the charity had to ask permission from Zelensky himself to which he obviously agreed. Wow, after all of these ‘expenses’ are taken out, I wonder how much will be left for the unfortunates who make up what’s left of the people of Ukraine.

And it’s not just me who thinks this is another money spinner for Kiev at the expense of the misinformed, just look at the comments received by the newspaper upon the release of the story.

On the subject of football, I read that following the end of hostilities in Ukraine, Ukraine champions, Shaktar Donetsk will play a friendly fixture against Chelsea at their Stadium in Donetsk according to owner Rinat Akhmetov. That might well prove difficult given that Shaktar will be playing at  Donetsk which is a Russian territory, and I doubt if Akhmetov will still be the owner. Very, very doubtful.

This is precisely why it’s called, ‘the beautiful game’.
